Protecting Marie by Kevin Henkes

7. On page 144, her best friend Mary Dibble came back from Florida. Fanny surprised her by bringing along Dinner and then telling her the whole story of what happened. Then, Mary’s little brother Joey asked if she could stay for dinner. And when Fanny leaves her house after dinner, she pictures the masterpiece that her father says he is in the middle of making. Henry is very emotional. One moment he is the happiest man alive and the next moment he accidently steps into Dinner’s food bowl and yells while he stomps out of the house to talk a walk. Is this because he is an artist?

6. On page 44, Fanny makes a careless action that may cost her. Fanny is very upset with her father. He didn’t show up at his birthday party, and she still is furious at him for getting rid of Nellie. At this moment, Fanny wasn’t sure whether or not Fanny was going to forgive him or not. So, Fanny takes a balloon and writes on a piece of paper that she wants a new father because she isn’t sure about him, then she writes her address and lets it go. I think that this action will come back negative for her. What if she has to be taken away from her parents? I don’t think that Fanny really thought this out well.

5. On page 129, while walking Dinner for the second time that day, she stopped and they were playing catch. After they caught it fifteen times, for Fanny’s lucky number, they turned around and were heading for home. Again, Fanny saw a boy with a red cap on his head. After she thought about this, she finally realized: the boy is the son of the woman that had owned Dinner. He wants Dinner back. Fanny ran home and has been afraid of making contact with him, and she is super careful when taking Dinner top the park sense.

4. On page 8, it describes on what was supposed to be a beautiful birthday, didn’t turn out that way at all. It was Henry’s birthday, and they had a big party planned, but he never showed up. In fact, they to cancel the party and they told everyone that he had the flu. It describes how Fanny thought of how it looked in her head, and how it actually happened. What Fanny pictured in her head and what actually happen are both very different.

3. On page 163, Fanny finds out that the boy in the red cap was just Timothy Hill. Timothy Hill is just a regular kid in school has far as Fanny knows. It wasn't the boy of the woman who had owned Dinner. In fact, he didn't even know who Dinner was. What he did have was the letter that she had written asking for a new father. I knew that someone would find that letter!

2. On pages 28 through 45, Fanny is telling us how she got her puppy Nellie, and how her father also got rid of the puppy after he found out it caused too much chaos in his neat and orderly home. Fanny has never been able to forgive her father sense for what he did.

1. On page 82, Fanny shows all of the emotions she is feeling when she comes downstairs for dinner and she finds out that dinner was a dog. The dog's name is Dinner, kind of an odd name, but she's stuck with it. Fanny is full of joy, but yet, she doesn't know for sure if it is really hers to keep. Will this be a repeat of last time?

Title: Into the Darkness

Author: Walter Dean Myers

#7 When Jimmy, the main character meets his father for the first time, he is overcome with shock, disbelief, and surprise. He believes the man is a stranger, and when his mother welcomes his dad in, she calls him Crab, and it proves that he is his dad.

#6 When Crab was explaining to Jimmy why he was in such a rush, Jimmy pounded his hand against the car's dashboard and demanded to leave. Jimmy did not believe that Crab could be his actual father. Crab pleaded to him that he was his father, and that he was escaping the cops, and at that point Jimmy went with him.

#5 When Jimmy was forced to either stay with his mother or travel with his real dad, he was torn, since he wanted to know the stranger of his father, but he did not want to break the heart of his mother. He called his mother once on the trip, and they both cried from the being away, possibly forever from each other, mother and son.

#4 While in the town that he was born in, Crab talks to someone that “participated” in the armed robbery to set things straight with Jimmy. While he was talking, the person drove away from Crab, saying it would not matter if he had proof to prove to Jimmy. Jimmy thought Crab did not commit the crime, yet he still had his doubts about his part in the robbery.

#3 When Crab was dying in the hospital because of his liver failure, Jimmy watched over him, and when he was talking to him, Crab said to Jimmy about how to set his life straight, and attempted to smile, before falling asleep and dying from his problems.

#2 While in Crab’s birth town, they sat at the small creek in the barren wasteland to talk about what had happened. While Crab was talking about his problems, Jimmy yells at him “ It doesn’t matter if you killed someone or took the money!” He thought any crime was bad, and that Crab committed a crime, which was almost the same as a murder or theft.

#1 When the cops point a rifle at Crab and captures him, Crab says he is sorry to Jimmy. Jimmy says, "I know Daddy, I know". When Jimmy said that, it provided Crab with relief, since his son finally forgave him for what he did, and that Jimmy accepts and loves the fact that he is his dad. That fact set Crab’s heart at ease, and helped remove an enormous weight off his shoulders, letting him to die in peace, without a regret that his son hated him.

Cover Up by John Feinstein
7.Stevie gets fired from USTV. Owners explain that Susan Carol needs ‘a more age appropriate looking partner,’ This angers Stevie, Susan Carol, and their family because they are the same age even though Susan Carol is taller, and also because a promise for airing throughout the whole year was given.

6.Stevie is asked to work for CBS.The owner is Sean McManus, who is known to be a honest owner, unlike most TV workers. Kelleher, who doesn’t like TV, tells Stevie to work for them. Page 33 says, “He’s not your typical TV exec. Maybe it’s because of who his father is, I’m not sure, but he’s never acted like being in TV makes him important. He’s as nice as he seems, and more important, he’s honest.”

5.The Dreams (the Super Bowl team) wins the Super Bowl by a game winning run by Eddie Brennan. They win with a special play that was made in pee-wee football, called E-D Special.

4.At an interview, Don Meeker (owner of the Super Bowl team) implies that he covered up his team from drug test results being revealed. Stevie tells Meeker at a Super Bowl Press Conference that he has a tape of Don Meeker and the manager of the show discussing bad things. Meeker says, “No way. Shupe and I were the only ones in the room.” This makes Meeker yell at Stevie right in front of the media and gives more information about the the team cheating.

3. Jamie, Susan Carol's partner, has a tape of Don Meeker and the manager of a show discussing that Meeker had to 'defend himself' from Susan Carol and Stevie, who were trying to figure out the case. This gives more evidence that Don Meeker cheated to make his team better.

2. Eddie Brennan (the team's star quarterback) and Bob Arciero (another team doctor) tells Stevie and Susan Carol that Meeker cheated and has drug test results to prove it. This can be supported on page 212, where the author writes, “The five starting offensive linemen were almost identical. Only Steve Sanders, the left tackle, had a notation saying his high testosterone level might be natural, based on prior testing. ‘Looks like he might have suspected they’d be tested again and was trying to get off the stuff,’ Arciero said.”

1.Susan Carol is told by a drunk doctor that the team that reached the Super Bowl has players who have failed the drug test. Soon, the doctor tries to deny, however it is too late, and Susan Carol and Stevie work to figure out this situation. This can be supported on page 91, where Susan Carol explains that this is what the doctor said: “What if I told you not everyone who tested positive has been suspended?” This makes Susan Carol suspicious, and she starts trying to uncover the secret with Stevie.

Title of Book : Holes
Author: Louis Sachar
7. When Stanley finally found Zero, he was under a boat, labeled Mary Lou. This boat had been smashed by Trout Walker’s boat a long time ago, where Sam was killed. Katherine Barlow was saved after her wishes to be killed. When they returned to shore, she found that Sam’s donkey, Mary Lou, was shot in the head.

6. Stanley’s great-grandfather said he had found refuge on “God’s Thumb”. One stormy night, Stanley sees the horizon light up with lightning and finds a thumb formation with the mountains. The day he decided to run away from Camp Green Lake looking for Zero, he also decided to travel all the way to the Thumb. He knew it was their only way of surviving. They soon realized that the Thumb had water they could drink and onions they could eat. Stanley and Zero wouldn’t have survived without this Thumb.

5.Katherine Barlow kisses Sam, a Black man, who is also known as Onion man. God would now punish them, for it was illegal for a Black man to kiss a White woman. Sam and his donkey, Mary Lou, are killed, leaving Katherine in tears. Later, Trout Walker and Linda Walker ask where she put the loot she had stolen from banks and tortures her until she led them to it, but Katherine never said anything. Katherine was killed by a yellow-spotted lizard, which can kill anyone with a single bite. She died laughing at how they wouldn’t find the loot for a long time.

4. Zero (Hector) is the reason why Stanley got into Camp Green Lake. He was the one who threw the sneakers, which belonged to Clyde Livingston who was famous, that hit him on the head the day he had been called a thief. Both Zero and Stanley would have never been at Camp Green Lake if he hadn't thrown those sneakers away.

3. Stanley found a golden tube with the initials K B, which stood for a Katherine Barlow. She was one of the most feared outlaws in all the West. The warden of Camp Green Lake seemed really interested in this discovery. When Zero and Stanley had dug out a suitcase in the same hole with that tube, the warden tried to take it from them. The suitcase was filled with jewels and a stack of papers that had once belonged to the first Stanley Yelnats was underneath it.

2. Camp Green Lake is not green or has a lake, but it does have many holes. It's more like a jail, instead of a camp. Camp Green Lake has barely any water. No counselor or the warden would try to stop you from escaping because if you did, you'd have no where to run and no water or food to survive. It is said that if you dig a hole everyday then it will make you a better person.

1. Stanley Yelnats is under a curse of bad luck because of his "no-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealing great-great-grandfather". Each time something bad happens, Stanley ends up in the middle of it and it was said that it was all because of his great-great-grandfather. Stanley blamed his great-great-grandfather at how he had “stolen” (the sneakers were thrown at him) the sneakers, which happened to belong to an all star in baseball (Clyde Livingston), that day and was sent to Camp Green Lake as a punishment.
